Garages Refurbishment Programme

Improvements

In November 2018 we started a £10 million programme to refurbish council owned garage blocks across the town. 

The work carried out varies from block to block, and depends on the detailed survey done at each site. The main elements that may be included in the work include:

• roofs
• garage doors
• structural repairs and alterations
• external redecoration
• door numbering
• block signage
• concrete hard standings
• Solar lighting

Due to their condition, many of our garages are vacant. Our priority is to improve these first so that we can let them to applicants on the waiting list.

We regularly review garage blocks and are currently focusing on those that are more than 30% vacant. We have identified which blocks these are and have a programme in place to refurbish them.

Up until August 2024, we will be focusing and working on specific garages located at:

• Angle Ways
• Buckthorn Avenue
• Elm Walk
• Gonville Crescent
• Grace Way
• Leslie Close
• Shephall Green
• Sisson Close (New Build)
• Scarborough Avenue
• Collenswood Road
• Mackenzie Square
• Hillmead

We will be contacting garage licensees, owners and local residents at least one month before any work starts on a particular block.

Contractors

The improvements are being delivered by Wates Living Space. All contractor staff carry full face photo identification and all appointments are made by prior arrangement. Please ask to see identification before letting anyone into your property or garage or before you hand over any keys.
