Stevenage Borough Council is committed to keeping our town clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. While we acknowledge the display of national flags across Stevenage, our focus remains on the prompt removal of graffiti from all council-owned and managed property, including:

  • Street name plates
  • Litter bins
  • Bollards and benches
  • Council-operated car parks
  • Council buildings

We do not condone graffiti in any form. Where individuals responsible for graffiti are identified, the Council will liaise with Hertfordshire Constabulary and take appropriate enforcement action.

If you see graffiti in your area, please take action and report it using our online graffiti reporting tool.

Report Graffiti Online

Every report helps us respond quickly and maintain the quality of our public spaces.

If graffiti is on private homes or commercial premises, we don’t remove it unless the owner asks us to. We can offer advice and a graffiti removal service, but costs vary depending on the size, surface, and type of paint.

Celebrating Public Art

As part of our town centre transformation, we continue to support vibrant, high-quality public art. A series of murals have been installed in various underpasses and other locations, bringing colour and character to our community.

We welcome good quality art and will consider any ideas, so if you have one that you’d like to put forward, please submit your suggestion to leisure@stevenage.gov.uk.

Graffiti on Hertfordshire County Council land and highways

Graffiti on highways and land managed by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) is handled separately. This includes roundabouts, lampposts, and other street fixtures.

HCC’s policy states:

“To ensure public safety, we do not permit any items to be attached to lampposts or other street fixtures without prior approval. Unauthorised items will be removed during routine inspections. If an item poses an immediate safety risk or contains offensive content, it will be removed as a priority.”

If you spot graffiti or unauthorised signage on highways, please report it directly to HCC using their online fault reporting tool:
