Community Groups receive grants from partners of Stevenage Works
The Stevenage Works Community Chest Fund was launched in 2020, with a view to offering local community organisations the opportunity to bid for a share of the fund on an annual basis.
Managed by Stevenage Works, the Community Chest Fund was created in conjunction with North Hertfordshire College (NHC) and Job Centre Plus (JCP) in response to a desire to create a joined-up approach to delivering social value within the community.
Contractors Mulalley and Wates were the first contributors and have committed to continue in line with their social value commitments in partnership with SBC. In 2022, The Reef Group and Aaron Services joined them, bringing the total in the pot to a whopping £14,000.
The number of bid submissions is gradually increasing year on year, with 16 received in 2022. Grant applications are of a high standard, and 7 groups were successfully chosen by a panel comprising representatives from SBC, NHC, JCP, and representatives of donating contractors.
Congratulations to all the successful organisations which received funding from the Community Chest Fund this time. They are:
- Pin Green Community Association
- The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children and Young Adults
- Stevenage Community Trust
- Green Space Volunteers
- The Oval (Stevenage) Community Association
- East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity
- Douglas Drive Day Centre
On Friday 24 March, the contractors who contributed to The Community Chest Fund, attended the Stevenage Council Offices to present their cheques to the successful community groups.
