Access to Properties Policy

This policy sets out Stevenage Borough Council’s approach to gaining access to residents’ homes for essential repairs, emergency situations, and legally required compliance checks.

We are committed to respecting the privacy of our residents and aim to avoid causing unnecessary inconvenience. However, there are circumstances where access to a property may be required without the resident’s consent.

This will only occur when access has been repeatedly denied and is necessary to carry out essential repairs, servicing, maintenance, or planned works that are required by law, contract, or regulatory obligations as a social landlord. It may also be necessary if failure to gain entry poses a health and safety risk to individuals or properties.
