Next Step Lets - Information for Tenants

The aim of the Next Step Lets scheme is to prevent homelessness throughout Stevenage. To ensure we match people to the right properties, access to our service is via our Housing Options caseworkers. They will review your housing options with you which includes how much rent you can afford to pay and if you have any additional requirements.

We secure private sector accommodation and work with landlords, both within and outside of Stevenage, to provide suitable accommodation to those who are in need. We visit properties and landlords to carry out checks to ensure the property meets the rental sector standards.

Once a suitable property is found, a Housing Supply Co-ordinator will arrange with you to view the property accompanied by a member of the team. You will not be asked to view a property that is unaffordable or unsuitable for you under homeless legislation.

Rent and deposit loans

We also offer rent and deposit loans to those who have been able to secure a private sector home on their own. A Housing Options Caseworker can discuss eligibility for the scheme with you.
