Fly-tipping in Garage Compounds

Our Environmental Services department is responsible for removing fly tips from council owned land. Reported fly tips are usually cleared within 7 days.

The fly-tipping of controlled waste is a serious criminal offence which carries a fine of up to £50,000 and/or five years imprisonment.

If the case is very serious and goes to Crown Court, an unlimited fine may be imposed, and the prison term goes up to five years.

Allowing fly-tipping is also an offence. Anyone giving waste to another person for disposal without checking whether that person is authorised to carry waste may be prosecuted.
