We offer a large item collection service for non-commercial, bulky household items.

Following feedback about our charges for bulky waste collections, we’re trialling a new discounted payment option, see below for details.

This pilot commenced on the 11 March.

Items we can and cannot collect

We can collect cookers, carpets, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, mattresses, tables, settees, free standing wardrobes, washing machines, beds, bicycles, fridges and freezers.

We cannot take business and commercial waste, builder's waste, kitchen units, bathroom suites, gas bottles, motor vehicle parts, asbestos, fencing panels and posts, sheds and greenhouses.

Cost of a collection

The cost for this service is currently £45 for up to three items or £75 (or £56.25 with concessions) for up to six items (three refuse sacks equals one item). No concessions are available for one to three items.

To be entitled to the concessionary rate you must provide proof that you are in receipt of a means tested benefit; Income support, Income based job seekers allowance, Income related employment support allowance, Pension credit - Guaranteed credit, Working tax credit, Child tax credit, Universal credit or Housing benefit.

Booking a collection

Call 01438 242323 to book a collection.

Please note an administration fee of £11 will apply if the large item collection is cancelled.

Assessed collection service

Some items excluded by the large items collection service can be removed by using the Assessed Collection Service.

An assessed collection can be arranged by contacting our depot at Cavendish Road on 01438 242323 and asking for Assessed Collections. Arrangements will then be made for the contractor to visit the location and give a price for the removal or disposal of the items.

If you choose to use a private company to dispose of your bulky waste, please ensure that they have a valid Waste Carriers Licence.
