Hedges
Where we look after hedges
We take care of hedges in places like:
- Parks
- Roadside areas (like verges and central reservations)
- Public spaces
- Paths behind houses (garden access)
- Around flats, sheltered housing, and hostels
When we trim hedges
Most hedges are trimmed twice a year: once in summer and once in winter. Some hedge bases are treated with weed killer to help keep them tidy.
What we don’t do
We don’t trim hedges that;
- belong to private homes,
- are owned by other organisations, or
- are outside of Stevenage
Need to report a problem?
You can report grass cutting issues online.
Keeping things safe and tidy
Our staff use machinery safely and properly. If there’s litter, we’ll clean it up when we trim. If a council hedge borders your home, we’ll trim the outside and top, but you’ll need to look after the inside. Hedges next to homes are normally trimmed by hand and kept at about six feet tall for safety.
Damage to property
If you consider that you have been injured as a result of our negligence or your property has been damaged by one of our employees acting negligently, or in breach of any statutory duty, you may have the right to make an Insurance claim against the Council.
