If nobody in your household is able to put out refuse and recycling for collection, you can request help.

Help with refuse and recycling

An assisted refuse and recycling collection service is provided to residents who are ill or elderly and cannot put out their bins and containers themselves and do not have anyone else to help them.

Via the online form below, you can request an assisted collection for refuse, recycling and garden waste. You can also tell us that you no longer require this service.

Why are you reviewing the scheme?

The review is aimed to provide an efficient and reliable service to our community. Every year we will contact you to make sure your circumstances have not changed and you are still eligible for the service.

What evidence do I need to provide?

For long term requests, we will need to receive a proof of evidence to confirm the service, for example: GP or medical professional letter, blue badge holder, over 65s medical confirmation of fitness, disability registration, etc.

We do not need evidence for short term requests.

Where do I send the completed form and evidence?

You can post it back to us to: Stevenage Borough Council, Cavendish Road, Stevenage, Herts., SG1 2ET or send us a scanned copy to waste.household@stevenage.gov.uk.

Does the evidence need to be the original or will you accept a copy or digital format?

We are happy to accept a copy of the evidence either by post or in digital format.

Why do I need to provide evidence?

This is to make sure you are eligible for the service and for us to be able to provide help to those who most need it in our community.

What happens if I can’t provide the evidence to support my application?

In this case, please do get in touch with us and we will assess your situation.

Will I have to provide evidence every year?

Before we contact you for our yearly review, we will assess the information we hold on you and decided whether we need an update on your circumstances.

What happens if I have a temporary arrangement and I need to extend it?

Please do get in touch with us by email, waste.household@stevenage.gov.uk to let us know your situation and for how long will you need to extend.

I didn’t know I was on the list, what do I do if I want to come off the list?

We would appreciate if you could let us know that you no longer need the service so we can remove you. Email us at waste.household@stevenage.gov.uk.
