Community Wealth Building
About Community Wealth Building
Community Wealth Building focuses on how much money is held and reinvested in an area for the benefit of local communities. Stevenage Borough Council passed a motion on 29 January 2020 in support of Community Wealth Building. This included a commitment to launch a Cooperative and Inclusive Economy Charter.
Our approach to Community Wealth Building is underpinned by four key themes:
- Procurement and social value.
- Training and skills.
- Growing the social economy sector.
- Tackling climate change.
At the heart of the approach is making sure that the economy works for everyone.
Stevenage’s Cooperative and Inclusive Economy Charter
The Charter is part of the Council’s commitment to Community Wealth Building. The Charter's aim is to create a fairer society and a more resilient economy for everyone; local residents, organisations and businesses.
Some examples of how we can all work together to bring about an inclusive economy include:
- shopping locally;
- offering work placements and apprenticeships; and
- using local supply chains.
