Right up my street - winners plaque

The Right Up My Street award gives recognition to the streets in Stevenage that have made a significant contribution to local residents. Nominations were submitted through October last year to January 2022. The competition, originated by the Mayor of Stevenage, Sandra Barr, to identify the Stevenage streets that best exemplify a spirit of cooperation, community spirit and great neighbourhood relations through actions and initiatives that have made a positive difference to people in their local area, either individually or as a group.

Explaining how the award came about, the Mayor said: "Those of us that live in Stevenage know what a friendly place it can be, with a great community spirit at its heart. I wanted to highlight that, particularly the great way people came together to help others during the worst of the pandemic.

“I hope that this award reveals the many instances people stepped up to help their friends and neighbours when they most needed it."

On Saturday 5 March, the Mayor of Stevenage, Sandra Barr visited the winning street unannounced to surprise its residents and to present them with their certificate and plaque.

And the winner of the friendliest street in Stevenage is…

Baddeley Close

Runners-up: Aldock Road and Hillmead

The nominations were judged by Mayor Barr, the Mayoress and Deputy Mayor Cllr Margaret Notley. Congratulations to the winning street and also the runners-up – keep up the good work!
