The museum is looking to create real life stories for the future by giving you the chance to share your happy memories about growing up here. It’s especially keen to hear from people who grew up in the town from the 1980s onwards and any photos and other records you may have. A photographer will be visiting the museum to capture images for its collection to bring to life what Stevenage is like for families in 2026 and in years gone by.

There are two exciting chances to get involved:

Family photos old school

• 12 September 
• 2pm – 4pm

A great chance to learn how to use an old film camera with your children to capture a day in the life of your Stevenage family and become part of the town's history. If you have an old camera, please bring it along. The museum will also have some available to borrow with film.

Share your family story and have your photo taken everyone welcome

• 10:30am -12pm

Everyone is welcome and there are multiple timeslots available with other days by arrangement. Come along and bring something that tells your story or think about a location in Stevenage that you loved as a child or young person.

The museum is also looking for photos and objects to help us tell the stories of growing up in Stevenage. Do you have any experiences from your childhood you’d be willing to share? It could be arriving home with a new baby, pram pictures, first day at school, hobbies and clubs, friends . . . let us know if you have any other ideas.

Young people and students aged 14-18 are especially welcome to get involved. This year’s young curators’ group will meet on alternate Thursdays, 4pm - 5:30pm, starting 17 September.
