Giving back to the local community is something Stevenage Borough Council is passionate about and as part of this commitment, during the public consultation process for the proposed housing development plans at Dunn Close, we asked respondents which local charity they’d like the scheme to support.

Haven First (havenfirst.org.uk) was a very popular choice, receiving just over 50% of the vote resulting in a £1,700 donation which the Council’s contractor SJM And Co happily contributed.

Earlier this week, Cllr Sharon Taylor presented the charity with a cheque which showed how grateful the people of Stevenage are for the wonderful work Haven First does.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, leader of Stevenage Borough Council said: “I was honoured to present Barbara with this cheque and know the donation will go to good use. It’s really important that our housing development schemes are giving back to the local community in partnership with contractors, in particular, to charities like Haven First who do such a brilliant job in Stevenage.”

So far, Stevenage Borough Council’s Housing Development team has delivered 300 new homes and currently is on site delivering 300 more - working to a five star quality programme that delivers:

1) Sustainable developments

2) Genuinely affordable rents

3) Tenure blind design

4) Makes best use of land

5) Community led consultation
