Two new electric vehicle charging points are now available for drivers in Stevenage town centre on Swingate.

The chargers are managed for Stevenage Borough Council by Electric Blue and are already live and available to use on the network. You can find the chargers, along with the rest of the Electric Blue charger network, on ZapMap, with live charging data.

Stevenage is actively encouraging a transition away from ICE vehicles, by providing accessible charging infrastructure to increase EV uptake. The two fast chargers offer four sockets for electric vehicle charging, and are ideally located for shoppers and commuters.

Further chargers will be installed before March of next year, once locations are agreed upon, as part of this ongoing project. Full 24 hour support for using the chargers and app is available by calling 0330 111 0078.

Lloyd Briscoe, Executive Member for the Economy Enterprise and Transport, said:

"On behalf of the Stevenage Borough Council, I am very pleased to be working with Electric Blue and ElectrAssure on this initiative, both of whom are Hertfordshire-based enterprises.

We know that residents are looking to invest in quieter, cleaner and lower carbon modes of

transport, so the installation of more Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points combined with our flexible approach to new infrastructure has to be seen as a positive. Enabling more people to switch to clean electric vehicles is one of our considerations in our “Future Town - Future Transport” strategy for addressing the climate emergency and delivering a carbon neutral Stevenage by 2030.”

Trevor Watt, Senior EV Solution Specialist added: “We, at Electric Blue, are delighted to be working with Stevenage Borough Council as they work towards their zero carbon goals following their climate emergency announcement in mid-2019, both as a Council and in the provision of accessible infrastructure for the community. As a Herts-born company ourselves, Electric Blue is thrilled that Stevenage is yet another authority to be joining the Hertfordshire network in the drive towards a clean air future.”.
