Local Elections Confirmation - Leader's statement
Cllr Richard Henry, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council said:
“The Secretary of State has confirmed local elections will go ahead in 2026. Although I am surprised at this announcement, our council welcomes the £63million additional capacity funding being made available to local councils going through local government reorganisation.
“This funding will help increase capacity to manage this complex reorganisation, while continuing to deliver our ambitious plans to Make Stevenage Even Better, and running local elections. Previously, we supported the call to delay local elections due to the work needed to deliver Local Government Reorganisation alongside our priorities for the town. We will deliver a robust local election programme this May to ensure residents have an opportunity to vote across Stevenage.”
