Residents are encouraged to be litter heroes and take part in litter picks across Stevenage, as part of the Great British Spring Clean 2022.

The Great British Spring Clean – a national campaign organised by Keep Britain Tidy – is running until 10 April 2022, which encourages communities to clean litter from streets, parks and neighbourhoods to help improve the local environment.

This year, Stevenage Borough Council has worked with its Co-operative neighbourhoods to identify six litter hotspots across the town for six litter picks. Of these, three have been dedicated to local schools, aiming to teach children the importance of keeping the town clean and green. The remaining three are open to all residents and community groups to take part in. These will be held across Stevenage during the school holidays in April.

The first will be at Hampson Park on Wednesday 6 April between 10am and 12pm. This will be starting by the main entrance car park.

The second is at Shephalbury Park on Thursday 7 April between 10am and 12pm, starting near the car park on the Broadhall Way entrance.

The third, on the 7 April will be at the commonly known ABC Park near Wellfield Court, St Nicholas between 2pm and 4pm.

Litter picking equipment will be provided on the day, but residents are encouraged to bring their own gloves if they wish to use any. For our young litter heroes aged 5-12, we will be offering Great British Spring Clean hero badges and badge making. All volunteers are welcome to join in our free thank you raffle, to be in for the chance to win their own litter picking starter kit.

So come along to a litter pick near you and be a litter hero. One bag makes a big difference in the fight against litter bugs!
