Everyone needs a place to call home, that’s why Stevenage Borough Council is working hard to tackle homelessness and build new council housing within Stevenage.

It’s essential everyone has an opportunity to provide feedback on our proposed housing developments within the area. This helps to shape the final proposal, as well as positively enhancing the vicinity. After all, we want Stevenage to be an area that’s enjoyed by everyone who lives and works here.

Councillor Jeannette Thomas, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing & Housing Development said: “We are working hard to combat homelessness in Stevenage, there is a high number of people waiting for properties on our council housing register, hence the reason for schemes consisting of mixed tenure properties.

“These consultations help us to engage with the local community. They’re extremely important and ensure the developments we build incorporate your views and expectations while fitting seamlessly into the surroundings. Please submit your ideas and tell us how you feel about these schemes.”

For all the consultations you will be able to submit your thoughts via our online portal, as well as in person at the different events mentioned below. Each consultation will also be advertised regularly via our social media channels too and each one has its own consultation link which is listed below.

We currently manage over 8,000 council homes in our housing stock, with a view to building more in the future. To ensure we make the best use of the land available, as well as being able to offer residents properties best suited to their needs, we are building a mixture of apartments, independent living schemes and family homes throughout Stevenage.

Sustainability forms an essential part of the plans for all of our new builds. Each of these proposed schemes, as well as the developments already constructed include a wide range of sustainable housing features to help combat climate change. In turn, this also provides our tenants with reduced running costs too.

Keep a look-out for all future Housing Development consultations which are frequently advertised on our social media channels, website and local media.
