Help for pensioners
If you or someone you know is of State Pension age (aged 66 years or older) and on a low income, you may be able to get extra money and support with heating costs, especially during the colder months when bills can increase.
Pension Credit is worth, on average, £3,900 per year and unlocks additional support including:
- Winter fuel payments
- Help with Council Tax
- NHS dental care
- For those over 75, a free TV licence
You can apply for Pension Credit and have your claim backdated by up to 3 months, as long as you were eligible during that time. Most people get the Winter Fuel Payment automatically. If you’re eligible, you’ll get a letter in October or November saying how much you’ll get.
Most eligible people will be paid in November or December 2025.
