Stevenage Football Club secures automatic promotion at the last home game of the season.

Following their 2 - 0 win over Grimsby Town in front of a packed Lamex Stadium, Stevenage Football Club has guaranteed themselves a place in Sky Bet League One for next season.

The first goal came through Jamie Reid who headed home a perfect cross from Jordan Roberts after 57 minutes. The lead was doubled by Luther James-Wildin with a very calm finish, in the bottom right corner, 25 minutes from time.

The team has one more match to play, which is away to Barrow on Monday 8 May, although this will not change their promotion status.

Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, Cllr Richard Henry said,

"Congratulations to Stevenage Football Club on the fantastic season and the promotion to League 1 following the win against Grimsby on Saturday.

The town and its people will be very proud of the achievements of the club and we will all look forward to celebrating this well-earned promotion as well as hosting a very different profile of teams to the town.

"Stevenage is in the midst of a £1billion regeneration scheme the biggest in the east of England, the development of the North Stand and now a club with League One status can only generate more interest in our great town. It's an amazing success and I thank the team, the fans and all those involved in this outstanding achievement."
