Application window for free energy-saving upgrades extended
The HUG2 scheme is now closed to new applications. Have you thought about applying for other schemes currently available or those coming in the future? You can find out more information on our cost-of-living pages, as well as visiting the Government web page Get Help Energy Bills to seek further assistance.
Residents in Stevenage are being urged to apply for free energy-saving upgrades following an extension to the deadline.
Eligible homeowners now have some additional time to begin their application for the Home Upgrade Grant, a government-funded scheme to make homes warmer and better for the environment.
The scheme is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and managed by the Greater Southeast Net Zero Hub and Stevenage Borough Council.
The deadline for submitting properties for funding approval has been extended to ensure as many people can benefit from the free energy-saving upgrades including solar panels, insulation, low carbon heating and more.
“There are still many homeowners in Stevenage who could miss out, so we urge you to check if you are eligible.
“The free upgrades can help you heat your home more efficiently and therefore protect your health while also reducing your bills.”
To be eligible for free upgrades, households must have a combined annual income of less than £36,000 (including benefits) or live in a specific postcode area, their properties must not be heated through mains gas, and they should be considered hard-to-heat homes.
Jane Hunt, Energy Efficiency Programme Lead at GSENZH, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for homeowners to have warmer homes which are better for the environment and their finances.
“We have heard first hand how the free upgrades have transformed people’s lives, who are no longer dreading winter or their energy bills.
“The work is completed on a first-come, first served basis so I strongly encourage people to apply before it’s too late.”
All works must be completed before the scheme ends on 31 March 2025.
