A tree planting event will take place on Wednesday 28 October at Walden End, opposite Vista Tower, to launch an exciting new tree trail marking Stevenage’s 80th anniversary as a New Town.

80 Trees for Stevenage at 80 is a landmark project that will create a lasting legacy for future generations.

Over the autumn, 80 trees will be planted along a four-mile heritage trail through some of the neighbourhoods that have shaped Stevenage since it became Britain's first New Town. The project will help celebrate this important milestone while enhancing the town’s green infrastructure, biodiversity and resilience to climate change.

The trail will begin in Bedwell and pass through Broadwater, Shephall and Chells before ending at Hampson Park in Pin Green. It will trace Stevenage’s journey from its earliest post-war neighbourhoods to the town we know today.

Launch event

The project will launch at 2pm on Wednesday 28 October with the ceremonial planting of the first and final trees along the route.

The first tree will be planted at Walden End, opposite Vista Tower, before participants travel to Hampson Park to plant the final commemorative tree.

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Stevenage in celebrating the start of the project.

The remaining 78 trees will be planted in the following weeks.
