We will deal with unauthorised encampments on local authority owned land.

Action we take

When taking action to remove unauthorised encampments from our land, we will:

  • ensure that any welfare issues are duly considered before making a decision to progress with an eviction.
  • weigh up any additional evidence gathered regarding the unauthorised encampment and balance it against the interests of the local community.
  • work closely with the Police and Herts County Council and agree the best way forward to deal with the unauthorised encampment.

If an eviction is agreed and we are leading on the eviction, we will employ a bailiff to serve a notice to leave the land. Failure to do so will lead to us removing offending property from the land and the Police will attend to ensure there is no breach of the peace.
