Stevenage Borough Council forced to cancel its Christmas Lights switch on event after a promising start
Stevenage Borough Council was really disappointed to cancel the Christmas Lights switch on event in the Town Centre on Saturday 27th November after Storm Arden hit the UK. The event got off to a promising start at midday with over 200 children seeing Santa and receiving a free gift from him. Sweets were also handed out and many faces were painted before sadly having to end the event early due to strong winds causing safety issues.
Families did however enjoy the snow globe, a game of tombola on the Age Concern stall - raising money for the charity and performers who braved the storm: The Miss Jones Jazz Band, Purple All Stars, Warriorz, Ras Demo (Demolition Man), Longmeadow Primary School, Aimi P, Steve Young, Eirra and Stage Coach. We thank them for their dedication and we’d love to see them perform again next year.
Don’t forget, we still have the ice rink, Christmas activities and meet and greet sessions happening this weekend in the Town Square from 10am for you to enjoy.
