This Saturday 26 June, is Armed Forces Day and Stevenage will be participating with an event in the Town Square featuring veterans, military charities and a tank.

Proceedings start at 10am and run through until 4pm with a marching band at 11am and music shows at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm.

Charities present will include the Royal British Legion, SSAFA and Kaotic Angels, which has supplied over 60,000 meals and food parcels since Covid started and continues to do so.

For children there is face painting and sand art. Free parking is available in the multi-storey car park at St George’s Way.

All the stalls will be following Covid-safe guidelines as are the many retailers that are now open following the end of lockdown restrictions.

Mayor of Stevenage, Sandra Barr, commented: “I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at this year’s Armed Forces Day, particularly those charities that do so much for our veterans and servicemen and women. I also hope the event provides a much-needed boost to those of our town centre businesses that need it after being shut during the pandemic. Hopefully we can give them all a bit of a lift.”
