Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Council regulates the provision of premises for gambling (including betting shops, bingo halls and amusement arcades), the provision of gaming machines in clubs and alcohol licensed premises and small society lottery registration.

At least every three years, the Council must review and adopt a Statement of Licensing Principles that details how the Council will undertake its licensing functions. The current Statement of Licensing Principles has been in effect since 24 July 2019 therefore the Council has undertaken a full review. The proposed statement of principles will form the basis of the Council’s decision-making for licensing gambling premises.

The draft Statement of Principles, with proposed revisions highlighted, is open to public consultation between 15 November and 19 December 2021; a copy of the document is available below:
