Stevenage - A New Era
The scale of ambition across Britain’s First New Town is unprecedented. A major £billion town centre regeneration programme is currently underway along with a £45 million refurbishment of council homes. At the same time there is significant investment across the town’s neighbourhoods to make lives better. All of this is being driven by a council with a co-operative commitment to working with its communities and driving a modern and agile approach to its work.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on Stevenage, as it has across towns and cities across the UK. As the town embarks on its recovery plan it does so attempting to ensure that no-one is left behind. The council has recently agreed an Inclusive Economy Charter and has also announced an Equalities Commission. The aim of both of these is to tackle issues of social exclusion and to ensure opportunities are created for everyone across the town. The local voluntary sector has also come together to work to secure resources to tackle the challenges ahead.
The next 12 months will be critical to the town’s recovery.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity within the Temporary Accommodation Team. The successful post holder will deliver a high quality customer focused recharge and reconciliation recovery service within a performance management framework. They will co-ordinate the recovery processes liaising with other teams and departments.
They will be responsible for the recovery of damage recharges and housing benefit reconciliation for emergency, temporary and housing first accommodation spends and any other charges owed to Stevenage Borough Council. Ensuring that former and current residents, with debt, are contacted promptly and repayment arrangements are monitored effectively.
They will work proactively and promptly to collect recharges and recover temporary accommodation overspends, through valid recourse claims; assisting vulnerable applicants to make successful housing benefit claims and work closely with Benefit Services.
They will help to ensure the accuracy of financial databases to enable control and reconciliation and that the records are maintained to ensure that former tenants rent and Recharge accounts are accurate and that all repayment arrangements made are properly accounted for.
The post holder will support the Temporary Accommodation Team in the efficient and effective management of income collection in relation to emergency, temporary and housing first accommodation spends.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience in carrying out investigations to trace former resident
- Experience in a customer facing service, with excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage a busy workload.
- Resilience and great team work skills
- A dynamic, pro-active and creative approach
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Determination to achieve targets
- Experience in dispute resolution
- Negotiating skills to make sustainable and reasonable payment plans
