Stevenage - A New Era
The scale of ambition across Britain’s First New Town is unprecedented. A major £billion town centre regeneration programme is currently underway along with a £45 million refurbishment of council homes. At the same time there is significant investment across the town’s neighbourhoods to make lives better. All of this is being driven by a council with a co-operative commitment to working with its communities and driving a modern and agile approach to its work.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on Stevenage, as it has across towns and cities across the UK. As the town embarks on its recovery plan it does so attempting to ensure that no-one is left behind. The council has recently agreed an Inclusive Economy Charter and has also announced an Equalities Commission. The aim of both of these is to tackle issues of social exclusion and to ensure opportunities are created for everyone across the town. The local voluntary sector has also come together to work to secure resources to tackle the challenges ahead.
The next 12 months will be critical to the town’s recovery.
About the role
Part of the Housing and Investment directorate Resident and Estates Services is responsible for carrying out tenancy, leasehold, major works and home ownership functions. Our vision is to provide a 'Residents First' approach within a modern housing service.
You will play a lead role in delivering the work of the Council’s housing services for a specific area of the borough and to effect the transformation and continuous improvement of frontline housing management across all housing tenures.
Housing Officers have a generic role providing a housing management service to residents on a tenure neutral basis. We want exceptional people working with us who take responsibility to ensure our residents live in homes that meet their needs, and proactively manage their tenancies and leases, in a difficult social environment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for their own patch of residents, working with them personally, visiting them in their homes and building lasting relationships as their main point of contact. You'll be comfortable dealing with residents on a range of complex issues as well as providing a first-class housing management service.
You will be able to make decisions and take effective action in dealing with challenging situations. You must be able to work collaboratively with your colleagues to identify the genuine needs of residents and jointly develop effective solutions, as well as using your own initiative, to achieve positive outcomes to problems.
We are looking for an experienced Housing Officer who wants to work in a customer-centred service. Ideally you will have a leasehold/property management background.
This is a great opportunity for a Housing Officer to assist the Senior Housing Officers and the Resident and Estates Services Manager in ensuring the delivery of high quality housing services for our residents.
