Which businesses will benefit

A business may be eligible if it :

  • Occupies a property and has liability for business rates
  • Has been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service from its premises.

Businesses will not be eligible if:

  • It has been able to continue to operate during the period of restrictions because it does not depend on providing direct in-person services from the premises.
  • It has chosen to close but is not required to do so as part of the national / local restrictions
  • Has reached the state aid limits. (The national business support grant counts towards state aid.) If you have reached the limit , you may still be eligible for funding under the Covid-19 Temporary Framework rules where the limit is €800,000.
  • Businesses that were in administration, are insolvent or where a striking off notice has been made at the date of local lockdown.

At the start of the national lockdowns beginning 5 November 2020 and 5 January 2021 local businesses who have been ordered to close may be eligible for a Government grant. The Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG ) is available for business required to close in national measures.

Support for businesses during the national lockdown period starting 5 January 2021:

The LRSG (Closed) Addendum plus the one-off Closed Businesses Lockdown Payment, are available to support businesses throughout this period of national restriction.

If you have already received a grant for the lockdown beginning 5 November you should have also automatically received the closed business lockdown payment and a grant for the period 5 January to 15 February. Payment will be sent shortly for the period 16 February to 31 March.

Please contact the business rates team if you have not automatically received your grant for the period beginning 16 February by 20 March or if you have not received any payments and feel that you should qualify.

Please note the closing date for applications for the closed business lockdown payment and payment cycle up to 15 February is 31 March 2021.

The application is only for those businesses that have liability for business rates. You will need to quote your Business Rates account number that begins with a 6.

The Additional Restrictions Support Grant (ARG) for businesses not ordered to close or without a business rates account will open 1 March

  • Has been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service from its premises.

  • It has chosen to close but it not required to do so as part of the national / local restrictions
