Concessionary fares for older persons
An older persons bus permit entitles the holder to concessionary travel on local buses throughout England. To be eligible for a bus permit the applicant must meet certain criteria.
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility for a bus pass (based on age) is tied to the state pension age for women.
If you were born before 6 April 1950 you are eligible from your 60th birthday. However, if you were born after 5 April 1950 you will need to check when you will be eligible. You can check this by using the ready reckoner (link available below):

You must also be resident in the borough.
Evidence required
Applicants should produce:
- a completed application form
- a passport sized photograph
- proof of age and residence, for example:
- pension book or birth certificate
- a Council Tax or utility bill
Applying for the service
Applications are accepted throughout the year and are available through our Customer Service Centre. To apply for a bus pass download and complete the application form available below, fill it in and take it to the Customer Service Centre. You will need to provide proof of age and address in the borough of Stevenage.
The Customer Service Centre is situated on the ground floor of Daneshill House. The Centre is open Monday – Friday between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

Replacements
Lost Permits
Lost permits must be reported to the Council immediately and the holder will be advised to wait 5 working days before a replacement is issued. This gives reasonable time for the permit to be found, handed in or returned to the Council via the freepost address.
When applying for the replacement a fee of £5 is required and a passport photo for the new ID card.
Stolen Permits
Replacements for stolen permits can be ordered immediately providing that the applicant has a Police Crime Number. The replacement permit will be posted to the applicant's address within 10 working days.
