North Herts Ramblers invite you to join us on another of our "bus walks". We meet at Stevenage Bus Station (Stop A) for the 379 bus at 10.00. Our walk, at a leisurely pace, is six miles from Bramfield to Woolmer Green. We can choose to stay for lunch at the pub before returning to Stevenage on the 300/301 bus. Saturday 5 July
Come down to Stevenage Town Centre this Saturday for the Stevenage Summer Knights Fun Day, which takes place in town square between 11am and 3.30pm. A fantastic range of entertainment, games and competitions is on offer with hundreds of prizes to be won! Children’s Medieval Fancy Dress competition on the roadshow stage at 2.30pm. Shephall Fete run by St Mary’s Church on Shephall Green at 1.15 on Saturday 5 July. Opening by the Mayor. Great afternoon out, bouncy castle, train and lots of sideshows and stalls for all the family at reasonable prices. If very very wet we will be in Barnwell School.
Come for a family fun day at Shephalbury Park Primary School, from 11am till 2pm. Attractions include Giant inflatable slide, Face painting, Gladiator Jousting, Pony rides, Refreshments and many more. All proceeds raised pay for equipment and events for the children.
Irish Network Stevenage are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday 5 July, Symonds Green Community Centre at 7pm. Tickets £6 including a free raffle. All funds in aid of Irish Elders in Stevenage. For further information contact 01438 352336.
Stevenage Arts Society launches its 2008 Summer Exhibition at the Denington Galleries, Springfield House, 24 High St, Stevenage. As this is an open exhibition the work on show comprises more than a hundred pictures representing a wide selection of media and styles from members and non-members. The exhibition is open 12noon - 4pm weekdays and 10am - 5pm Saturdays; the last day is Saturday 19th July. Admission is free. The John Henry Newman School, Hitchin Road, Stevenage, is holding its annual summer fete on Sunday 6 July 2008 from 12-4pm. Attractions include a skating rink, pony rides, bouncy castles, books, plants, bric-a-brac, tombolas, coconut shy, food from around the world, barbecue, music and cheerleaders and all the traditional fun and games. Age Concern Stevenage is holding its Annual General Meeting at 9.45am in the Autun Room of Daneshill House. After the formal business there will be a short talk by former TV cookery presenter Zina Skinner on “Facing the Camera”. Older people and their carers are very welcome to attend.
Thursday 10 July
Stevenage & District Fuchsia Society the next meeting of the Club will be held at 7.30pm at the Community Centre on the Roaring Meg Retail Park (opposite Boots the Chemist). This month's speaker is Roger Umbelby who will be giving a talk on Pests & Diseases which I am sure is of interest to everyone. The Club meets every 2nd Thursday in the month and we have a variety of speakers throughout the year. We are always pleased to see new members who will be made very welcome. Entrance fee for visitors is £1 and should you decide to join our Club the enrolment fee is £6 per annum.

Stevenage International Club Meets at the Reformed Church Hall, Cutty’s Lane, Stevenage at 7.30pm. This month features Wildlife in the Garden by Barry Kaufmann Wright. Entry fee for members £2, special evenings and non members £2.50, annual membership fee £3.50.
Saturday 12 July
Fifth Stevenage Scout Jumble Sale. Doors open 2pm at Scout H.Q, Shephall View, Bedwell, Stevenage. Come and have a rummage and find some bargains. Jumble wanted phone 01438 221937 or 01438 230545 for details.

Sunday 13 July
The Stevenage Lytton Players are celebrating their 60th anniversary by holding an Open Day from 12 noon to 5pm at The Lytton Theatre, Vardon Road, Stevenage. We invite everyone to come along and see just what goes into putting on a show. There will be performances by the Youth, Drama, Music and Music Hall sections as well as displays of costumes, props, sets and set designs. So pop along, have a coffee, beer and wine and prepare to be entertained by your local amateur theatre group. We look forward to seeing you there - entrance is free. Poplars and Bandley Hill Community Centre is closing down. Grand sale of furniture, kitchen and office equipment, books and stationary etc at the community Centre on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 July 2008 from 10am – 3pm. Buyers to arrange collection.
Sunday 20th July
Chells & Manor Fun Day will take place from 11am - 4pm at Nobel school. The event is in aid of the Living room and Butterflies charities. Two local charities based in Chells. There will be lots to do for all the family including live music, demonstrations, a climbing wall and talent show. The talent show is for children and adults & will cost £2 to enter. Stagecoach will give a year’s subscription to their stage school for the child winner.
The Leys Primary School, Ripon Road, Stevenage, will be holding a BBQ and Book Sale on Sunday 20 July from 2.30 – 5.30pm. Tables must be booked through Sue on 01438 236510 or email bbq@maternaltouch.org.uk £5 per table. All proceeds in aid of the school and Roots Nursery School in Gambia. Admission £3 per adult, £2 per child (under 5’s free). Price includes a Burger.

Aidan Caine, Stevenage author and creator of the character 'Famouse, The Mouse That Dreams of Fame'. His second book Famouse-Dream On' has just been published and an exhibit of photographs, model's of Famouse, posters and books will be on display at Stevenage Library for one week from 7 July.
Families Need Fathers: This national charity helps parents (mainly fathers) maintain contact with their children following separation or divorce. The local branch meets on the second Monday of every month at 8pm in a private room at 'The Peartree' pub in Valley Way, Stevenage. We are lucky enough to have a family solicitor who attends to give general advice free of charge. If you would like to come along, please call Stuart on 07884 121733 or just turn up on the night.
