Herts Women’s Centre
The Herts Women’s centre is a voluntary organisation providing a safe and confidential, women only environment for women aged 18 upwards. They have a range of information and staff will be available to provide both support and a listening ear.
The organisation was first established in 1995 as the Stevenage & North Herts Women’s Resource Centre and offers information and support on women’s issues as well as a range of free services which include:
- telephone support
- one to one support appointments
- vocational and educational guidance
- support groups
- drop in sessions
- domestic violence drop-in
- advocacy
- self development courses
- solicitor’s surgery.
The centre also offers a quality short and long term free counselling service to women in the community that it serves. There is a free crèche facility for women that use the Centre.
The centre also runs regular “Drop-Ins” which give women the opportunity to come together to share their thoughts, concerns or worries in a safe, friendly environment.
Counselling for all types of problems is also available but a small charge is made for this service.
A counsellor and a client can meet regularly in a safe, confidential environment to explore emotional difficulties the client may be experiencing. In this setting the client is encouraged to talk through her feelings with a skilled listener who will neither judge nor advise.
