Retailers against Crime in Stevenage

The Retailers against Crime in Stevenage association (RACS) was formed as a partnership between the Police and other local agencies. It has been operational since the 29th January 1999. Most of its members are retailers who have got together with the Police and local agencies to combat retail crime within the Town Centre. The town radio link was amalgamated with a photo-sharing scheme - run in conjunction with the local Police and enabled the association to operate in a more professional manner and allowed the scheme to issue exclusion orders against known targets and other prolific offenders.

This has evolved into a desire to make the Town Centre a safer and more pleasant place for people to visit and enjoy. Members now find themselves not only dealing with offences within their own premises, they also get involved with events in and around the town, deal with various accidents or children who get separated from their their parents.

If you ever find yourself in need of assistance you can go to one of the major stores within the town centre and let theĀ  staff know. They can use radio link to alert the rest of the town centre, including the CCTV Operators.

RACS also operates on the Roaring Meg Retail Park and aims to provide a retail environment which is safe and pleasant for shoppers and retailers alike.

If you are a retailer and want more information regarding this association, please contact the Community Safety Unit at the Borough Council, on 01438 242242 who will forward your enquiry to the relevant RACS officer.
