Who are we?

To a lot of people, the Community Safety Partnership is something they have very little knowledge of, but in reality it forms a pivotal part of all that goes on to make Stevenage a safer place to live, work and socialise.

For many years Hertfordshire has been one of the safest counties in the whole country and Stevenage reflects that trend.

But, what is the partnership, why do we need it and how does work?

In 1988 the Government passed the Crime and Disorder Act. This made it a binding legal requirement for a number of public sector organisations to work together in partnership to tackle crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour.

Many agencies came together including Stevenage Homes Ltd, the Borough Council, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, the Police, the Probation Service, the Primary Care Trust and units of Hertfordshire County Council to form the partnership.

The Stevenage Community Safety Partnership’s vision is:

“To work together with the community to reduce the fear and levels of crime and anti-social behaviour.  We will create a safer environment for all those who live shop, travel and work in Stevenage.”

The Partnership is structured as follows:

Partnership Structure

The current structure came into effect in September 2007 following a comprehensive review. The review was instigated to sharpen the effectiveness and focus of the Stevenage Community Safety Partnership and to ensure that we were well placed to meet the six Hallmarks of Effective Partnership Working.
