During the festive season, revellers at Stevenage Leisure Park will be treated to the services of two dedicated Taxi Marshals to help them get safely home.
The pilot scheme will operate at the taxi rank at Stevenage Leisure Park on Friday and Saturday nights for the next 12 weeks. During the Leisure Park’s busiest hours, from midnight until 4.00am, two qualified door supervisors, supplied by Bradzone Ltd, will be on hand to marshal the taxi queues.
The scheme has been commissioned and funded by the Stevenage Crime Reduction Partnership to provide additional safety for those leaving the pubs and clubs on the Leisure Park late at night. The marshals were put into place last Friday and the police reported that the service was working well, with far vfewer issues around the taxi rank than they would have normally expected on a busy weekend.
Executive Councillor for Community Safety Bob Clark said: “As a community leader the council is committed to working with the police and other agencies to make the town safer. I would ask everyone to behave sensibly and considerately this Christmas and New Year so we can all enjoy the festive season in peace and harmony.”
