1book4stevenage
The second book in the 1book4stevenage campaign has been revealed following a Welsh themed launch at North Hertfordshire College.
This year’s book is Aberystwyth Mon Amour, by Malcolm Pryce. Described as a “fantastically offbeat thriller” the book follows hard-boiled detective Louie Knight as he tries to uncover what is happening to schoolboys who are disappearing in the Welsh coastal town of Aberystwyth.
Copies are available from Ottakar’s in Stevenage town centre for half the usual price.
1book4stevenage is a long-term project to promote reading and to help generate community spirit by encouraging as many people as possible to read the same book at the same time. It began when author Ken Follett brought to the Council’s attention similar ‘town-wide read’ campaigns in America. It is the only campaign of its kind in the South of England and it made its hugely popular debut in 2005.
Aberystwyth Mon Amour was chosen because of its broad appeal to young and older readers alike. It’s a fantastically funny black comedy that captures the atmosphere of the author’s home town beautifully.
Malcolm Pryce grew up in Aberystwyth before travelling the world as a deckhand on a yacht, an advertising copywriter and a public relations man for the former headhunting tribes of Borneo. He now lives in Thailand but will be in Stevenage on Saturday 6 May at 11.00am for a ‘Meet the Author’ event at Stevenage Library in Southgate.
