Help make Stevenage a Fairtrade town
To become a Fairtrade town, five goals must be met. They are:
- Local council passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade.
- At least two Fairtrade products are readily available in local shops and served in local cafes/catering establishments.
- Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places and community organisations.
- Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign.
- A local Fairtrade steering group is formed to ensure continued commitment to its Fairtrade Town status.
Fairtrade aims to ensure that the people in developing countries, who make the goods sold in this country, get a price that fairly rewards their work. This helps them work in better conditions and a safer environment.
As part of the campaign to become a Fairtrade town, we will be publishing a Fairtrade directory later this year. The directory will contain contact details for people and businesses that supply, use or sell Fairtrade products.
If you would like to be included for free in the Fairtrade Directory you can call 01438 242392, fax 01438 242142 or email: fairtrade@stevenage.gov.uk

The Chair of the Fairtrade Steering Group, Councillor Sharon Taylor said: “The Council is increasing its commitment to Fairtrade and we want to encourage other organisations in the community and residents to join with us by using Fairtrade products and supporting businesses who stock or serve them.”
