Get your details in the Fairtrade Directory – for free
If your business, school or organisation is involved in selling or distributing Fairtrade products, we want to hear from you.
Later this year Stevenage Borough Council will publish a Fairtrade Directory containing contact details of people who supply, use or sell Fairtrade products. There will be no charge to be included in the directory which will also be available on the council’s website stevenage.gov.uk
The Directory is the brainchild of the Fairtrade Steering Group, a special committee dedicated to ensuring the promotion and sale of Fairtrade products in Stevenage.
Fairtrade works hard to ensure that the people in developing countries, who make the goods you buy, get a price that fairly rewards their work. This helps economically disadvantaged producers and farmers to work in better conditions and in a safer environment.
Stevenage Borough Council’s commitment to Fairtrade stretches back almost a decade to the Adoption of Corporate Fair Trade Policy in 1998. Publishing a Directory is another step towards making Stevenage a Fairtrade Town*.
If you would like to be included for free in the Fairtrade Directory you can call 01438 242392, fax 01438 242142 or email fairtrade@stevenage.gov.uk

The Chair of the Fairtrade Steering Group, Councillor Sharon Taylor said: “The Council is increasing its commitment to Fairtrade and we want to encourage other organisations in the community and residents to join with us. By producing a Directory we can give people greater access to Fairtrade products and encourage more businesses to support the ideals behind Fairtrade.”

Notes to editors:
*In order to become a Fairtrade Town the following five goals must be met:
- Local council passes resolution supporting Fairtrade
- At least two Fairtrade products are readily available in local shops. Fairtrade products are served in local cafes/catering establishments
- Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places and community organisations
- Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign
- A local Fairtrade steering group is convened to ensure continued commitment to its Fairtrade Town status
