Criteria for Grant Aid Applications 2009/10
The Council will consider grant applications from voluntary and community organisations that address one or more of the following Stevenage Community Strategy priorities
Children and Young People
- Help children and young people achieve their potential at all ages
- Help children and young people have good things to do and places to go
- Involve children and young people in decision making
- Reduce teenage pregnancy and improve sexual health
- Safeguard our children and young people, and promote their health and well being
Economic Development, Enterprise and the Environment
- Create cleaner and greener communities
- Increase range of employment opportunities
- Make a town wide commitment to halt climate change
- Provide a better image for the town
- Provide better transport
- Regenerate the town centre and the neighbourhood centres
Healthier Communities and Older People
- Create healthier lifestyles
- Create opportunities for older people
- Ensure access to quality health care services
Safer and Stronger Communities
- Develop affordable homes
- Valuing volunteering
- Empower communities
- Increase community cohesion
- Make culture sport and leisure more accessible
- Reduce anti social behaviour
- Reduce fear of crime
- Reduce hate crime and harassment
- Reduce violent crime
Voluntary and community organisations need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for grant aid:
Your organisation must:
- Be a non-profit making organisation with charitable purposes
- Provide services which meet the needs of Stevenage residents
- Provide services which meet community need without duplicating existing services
- Be an independent organisation with no unjustifiable restrictions or limitations on membership
- Be committed and actively seeking to involve users and members
- Be committed to equal opportunities and preventing discrimination in service provision and employment
- Be a properly constituted organisation formed and managed by a management committee whose members participate on a voluntarily basis
- Be openly accountable
- Be actively seeking other sources of funding

The Council does not award grants of £200 or less, or to individuals, groups organised for party political purposes, trade unions or statutory agencies.
