Street litter (including street sweeping)

Our streets are divided into zones, depending on the volume of pedestrian traffic using the streets each day. The more frequently the area is used, the more often it will be swept.

We are responsible for street cleansing. We visit every street every other week for litter-picking and sweep every road regularly, parked vehicles permitting. The Town Centre and Old Town High Street are cleaned hourly during the working day and neighbourhood shopping areas are cleaned  up to twice daily.

We also offer a competitively priced mechanical sweeping service to local businesses and developers for one-off or regular sweeps of areas such as roads, car parks and building sites.

If the visual appearance of an area should deteriorate to an unacceptable level between cleans however, it will be cleaned up within a certain time, as laid down in a Litter Code of Practice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

If you feel your road is not swept satisfactorily, or you have any other comments or questions, please contact us or report it using the online form.
