New trains, new opportunities

During 2014, new contractors were appointed to run both the major train operators that serve Stevenage - Great Northern (a subsidiary of Govia) now run commuter services. Virgin will take over the Inter-city services to the North of England and Scotland in March 2015.

New Inter-city trains are due into service in 2019. These will be faster, more resilient, more comfortable and offer more seats. In combination with a new hi-tech in-cab signalling system, there will be the opportunity to run more trains to more destinations.

Great Northern are receiving new trains in 2017/18. These will offer more seats and faster journeys. In December 2018 Great Northern services from Stevenage will run via St Pancras (for access to Eurostar and HS1 services), Farringdon and London Bridge directly to destinations such as Gatwick Airport, Horsham and Brighton south of the Thames.

Farringdon will offer easy interchange to Crossrail trains servicing Heathrow Airport in the West and Canary Wharf in the East.

Over the next five years, Stevenage will become an even better base for business.
