Large item collections

Stevenage Borough Council offers a Junk collection service for non-commercial, bulky household items, which are items you would generally take with you if you moved house. The cost for this service is £68.75 (or £52.00 concessions) for up to 6 items (3 refuse sacks = 1 item).

To be entitled to the concessionary rate you must provide proof that you are in receipt of  a means tested benefit: Junk-Collection-Web

To book a collection call 01438 218888, you will be able to pay over the phone if you have your debit or credit card to hand. Alternatively payment can be made in person at the Customer Services Centre where you can pay by cheque, cash or credit/debit card.

Please note a £11.00 administration fee will apply if the junk collection is cancelled.

Examples of what we can take:
Cookers, carpets, dishwashers, hoovers, mattresses, tables, settees, wardrobes (free standing), washing machines, beds, bicycles, fridges and freezers.

Examples of what we can not take:
Business and commercial waste, builder's waste, kitchen units, bathroom suites, gas bottles, car parts, asbestos, fencing panels and posts, sheds and greenhouses.

Some items excluded by the Junk Collection Service can be removed by using the Assessed Collection Service. An assessed collection can be arranged by contacting our depot at Cavendish Road on 01438 218888 and asking for Assessed Collections. Arrangements will then be made for the contractor to visit the location and give a price for the removal / disposal of the items.

Alternatively, if your household items such as furniture are re-usable, please consider using a re-use charity such as the Stevenage Furniture Recycling Scheme, they can be contacted on 01438 362900 or why not put it on a re-use site such as Gumtree or Freecycle and see if someone else could get some use out of it. If you choose to use a private company to dispose of your bulky waste, please ensure that they have a valid Waste Carriers Licence.
