If you have a large item such as an piece of furniture you wish to dispose of, we offer the Special Collection for Large Items Service at a small charge.
We do not provide a free bulk collection service. A paid service is operated and quotations can be provided. There are concessions for people on benefits and senior citizens.
There is a maximum of 6 household items per order and if there are more than 6 items then an additional order and payment needs to be made.
As part of Junk Collection the authority provides a service for the collection of bagged garden waste. The maximum number of sacks is 20 per order and an additional order will need to be raised if more than 20 are requested for collection.
Fees / charges
A charge of £45.00 is made for 6 large items. There is a concessionary rate of £22.50.
For bagged garden waste the charge is £4.25 per bag. There is a concessionary rate of £2.25 per bag.
To be entitled to the concessionary rate you must provide proof that you are either 65 or over, in receipt of Unemployment Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.
Please note a £6.00 administration fee will apply if the junk collection is cancelled.

Excluded items
Some items of junk are excluded. This includes asbestos, car batteries, builder's debris, building materials, car parts, LPG cylinders, soil or sand, fluorescent tubes, kitchen units, bathroom suites, glazed windows and doors, waste oil, greases or chemicals, loose garden waste, garden sheds, green houses, fencing panels and posts. This list is not an exhaustive list.
Items excluded by Junk Collection Service can be removed by the Assessed Collection Service provided by the contractor at the Depot on Cavendish Road. Telephone 01438 218888 and ask for Assessed Collections and arrangements will be made for the contractor to visit the location and give a price for the removal / disposal of the items.
Areas in Stevenage not included in collection service
There are parts of great Ashby that are not served by Stevenage Borough Council. The scheme is not open to these areas. These include all streets east of Cherwell Drive.
