Schools recycling and support

Waste and Recycling for schools

Stevenage Borough Council is working with schools in the borough to improve the recycling services and education opportunities offered to schools.

We provide free recycling collections of paper, glass, tins and plastics which can be arranged by contacting out Customer Service Centre. These bins are emptied every fortnight.
Paid for collections for refuse and cardboard recycling are available and can be arranged by phoning our depot reception on 218888. This can be tailored to meet your needs adjusting for school holiday periods.

New from 2013, we are introducing food waste collections for schools who offer school dinners to reduce food waste from school kitchens and lunches.

Education and Events

We offer the opportunity to have an officer visit your school to deliver presentations on recycling, litter or sustainability. These talks are free, interactive and can be tailored to suit your needs.

Stevenage Borough Council has its very own recycling site at its waste transfer station in Cavendish Road. Visits to the site can be arranged where pupils have the opportunity to find out what happens to their recycling once it is collected from their house.

To arrange a school presentation or visit to the waste transfer station please contact our environmental campaigns team on 01438 242894.

Teaching resources, put together for use with KS2 and KS3 pupils, are available from WasteAware and provide teaching support to deliver waste and recycling topics in the classroom. Use the link below for more information.
