Household waste and recycling centre

The household Waste Recycling Centre on Caxton Way is a free service provided by Hertfordshire County Council.Household-Waste-Site-2

The recycling centre is provided for residents taking their own household waste and recycling (except hazardous waste) and will not accept waste from trade or business activities.

Opening times

Winter (1 October - 31 March)

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 10am - 6pm

Summer (1 April - 30 September)

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10am - 6pm
  • Saturday 8am to 6pm
  • Sunday 10am - 6pm

Closed Christmas day, Boxing day and New Year's day.

Van Permitting Scheme

If you are a site user who wishes to dispose of your household waste at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) using a van, pickup truck, commercial type vehicle or vehicle and trailer combination, then you will need to apply for a permit to do so.

The permit is free of charge and will be valid for 12 months. It will allow one vehicle 12 tips during this period, valid for all sites. Only one permit will be allowed per household.

To apply for the permit, you will need to complete a form which is available to download from the Herts County Council website. You will then receive a letter which you must take with you each time you visit the named site with the vehicle, this will be signed upon entry by a member of site staff.
