Sites and special projects policy
Local Plans are prepared by every Council in the country to address conservation and development issues and set out policies on these matters. Local Plans provide the basis for making decisions on planning applications.
When considering special projects, we have particular responsibilities for:
- initiating and developing policies which lead to positive change and the regeneration of run-down areas,
- preparing and promoting an environmental enhancement programme,
- investigating and where appropriate bidding for regeneration funds from Government and other sources,
- drafting development and design briefs and enhancement schemes,
- working in consultation with local communities, corporately within the Council and with other agencies and partnerships when developing strategies and programmes.
Currently, the special projects being undertaken by the Council include the regeneration of Stevenage Town Centre; facilitating the building of a new community at Stevenage West; and schemes to improve the Gunnels Wood and Pin Green business areas.
