See the vision for your new town centre

Our plans for your spectacular new town centre are beginning to take shape and here’s your chance to see them.

Developers ING and Stanhope open the doors of the exhibition this month to showcase their proposals for the £500 million redevelopment project, before a planning application for the scheme is submitted later this year.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 24 March until Saturday 31 March.  It’s open every day (except Sunday 25 March) from 11.00am until 4.00pm Monday to Friday and 10.00am until 4.00pm Saturdays.

The exhibition is in the former ‘Edward The Confessor’ pub just off the town square, next to Lloyds TSB bank and the bus station.  It’s been totally refurbished for this exhibition and you will have an opportunity to see the proposed plans, including a design model, meet the developers and give important feedback on the scheme.

The plans are set to completely revitalise the heart of the town with:

Councillor John Gardner, Executive Member for Economic Regeneration said: “The town centre needs to undergo substantial change sympathetic to its original concept, whilst establishing it as a vibrant place to visit, shop, live, work and relax and we are confident that ING and Stanhope’s plans will achieve this and more.  We want as many people in Stevenage and the local area as possible to come along to the exhibition, see the plans and tell the developers and us what they think.”

Councillor Sharon Taylor, Leader of the Council said: “This is a very exciting time for Stevenage as it moves into a major phase in its history with a new town centre and other exciting regeneration projects.  We have worked hard alongside the developers and our partners the national regeneration agency, English Partnerships and we are confident people will like what they see.  I look forward to Stevenage people telling us what they think.”

John Lewis, Regional Director for English Partnerships said: “Partners and stakeholders have worked together to bring forward proposals for a comprehensive, high quality, well designed scheme that will bring new life into the heart of Stevenage town centre. The exhibition is an important opportunity for local people to view these exciting proposals and have a say in the scheme that will form their town centre.”
