Information about new legislation
On 1 October 2008 new Government legislation was introduced changing the circumstances of when planning permission would be needed for householder developments.
The new rules will, with exceptions, increase the scope of what is permissible for loft conversions, extensions, outbuildings and other works without the need for planning permission. It also introduces controls on the paving over of front gardens.
To find out more information on these new regulations, the Planning Portal has an interactive house guide. The website www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/hhg/houseguide.html guides users around the new rules.
