Control and advice on demolitions
When intending to demolish a building, notice must be be given to the Council which is usually a minimum of six weeks prior to work commencing.
We supervise and regulate the majority of demolition projects in the Stevenage Borough area. Our surveyors inspect the sites to ensure buildings are demolished safely and in accordance with the standards laid out in Sections 80, 81, and 82 of the Building Act 1984.
If you need to carry out any demolition work you will be required to inform us, unless the demolition is:
- of an internal part of a building and the building is occupied, (a Building Regulation application may be required, see alterations)
- of a building which has a cubic content (measured externally) of not more than 1750 cubic feet (approx. 49 cubic metres)
- of certain agricultural buildings
In all other situations we will then inspect the property and issue you with a schedule of conditions. When the work starts our surveyors may inspect the property to ensure the conditions are being met.
