Development planning is a continuous process of looking forward and deciding on a course of action to improve people's quality of life and the appearance of our environment in a sustainable way.
It involves protecting the best, improving the worst, and aiming positively to ensure a better quality of life for everyone, now and for future generations.
Development plans focus on land use development and protection set within the context of wider social, economic and environmental trends and considerations.
The Borough Council is responsible for producing a Local Development Framework (LDF) to guide development within Stevenage.
Until the LDF is completed (see progress) its predecessor, the local plan, remains the principle tool that we use in determining planning applications.
However, some emerging policies within our LDF are used as material considerations in the determination of new planning applications.
Hertfordshire County Council are responsible for producing plans relating to minerals and waste for the whole of Hertfordshire. Please see the links below for further information.
