Dangerous structures and public safety

If a structure is in a dangerous condition and puts the occupants or the public at risk the council may take action regardless of who owns the property.

The owner may be required to evacuate or demolish the building or carry out work to ensure the safe passage of the public. If the work has to be carried out immediately the council may do the work and recover the costs from the owner.

We give priority to dangerous structures over all other works.

The Building Control team provides a Dangerous Structures service between 09.00am and 16.30pm Mondays to Friday excluding Public Holidays.  Please phone Building Control on 01438 242264 and a Building Control Surveyor will attend site as a matter of priority during the working day.  If a dangerous structures incident arises out-of-hours please phone the above number and leave a detailed message including the address and nature of the incident, your name and contact details and the date and time of your call.  A Building Control Surveyor will respond promptly after 09.00 on the next working day.
