Small businesses invited to virtual procurement workshop

20 Jul 2020

To support local businesses in Stevenage, owners are being invited to an online event which will focus on access to procurement opportunities at Stevenage Borough Council.

The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday 30 July at 10.30am.

It is part of the council’s response to support businesses through the current pandemic and towards economic recovery. As part of the initiative, the council has continued to provide information, advice and guidance to the businesses community, supporting 863 businesses through the Small Business Grant Fund, the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant and also through the Discretionary Grant Fund.

Cllr Lloyd Briscoe, Executive Member for Economy, Enterprise and Transport at Stevenage Borough Council said: “I am pleased to announce we are supporting local businesses to help understand the procurement process. Our aim is to continue to support them during these difficult times by encouraging them to bid for opportunities and increase supply chains, which will result in business growth. This event will help to explain the red tape surrounding the procurement processes and rules, which can often be seen as a barrier to accessing public sector contracts.

“We are fully committed to enable local businesses to access the opportunities available from Stevenage Borough Council, to grow a thriving and enterprising economy which benefits all local companies.”

The workshop will provide a bite size session which will explain public sector procurement processes, inform businesses of new opportunities, how these can be accessed and the buying process at Stevenage Borough Council. It will also help demystify paperwork and outline the support available to businesses, including top tips for bidding and much more. It will last an hour and will be presented by the Council’s Procurement Managers Lisa Baldock and Kirsten Brown.
